Are you ready for a challenge? National Nutrition Week is just around the corner and is a great time to think about healthy eating and get into some nutritious home cooking. For the week starting Sunday 12th October, until Saturday 18th, Nutrition Australia are challenging us to cook, eat and enjoy every meal for 7 days. This means preparing tasty meals for yourself and your family for 1 week and avoiding purchasing pre-prepared meals, convenience foods and takeaway items. You can commit to cooking all breakfasts, lunches and dinners, or if this sounds too daunting, just commit to 7 dinners for 7 days. You can pledge to take the challenge here. Nutrition Australia even have some example meal plans if you need a little extra inspiration.
Taking the challenge can be an excellent way to start thinking about your own nutritional intake and looking at ways to fuel your body with nutritious meals. Did you know that less than 10% of us eat enough vegetables each day, and only half of us are eating the recommended serves of fruit. Why not take a look at these posts to refresh your memory on what your body needs from the 5 food groups each day.
Thinking of taking the challenge? A helpful tip to remember is that the meals don't have to be fancy - your dinner meals might just be a healthy portion of home cooked meat and veg, and that's OK! Healthy eating doesn't have to be all superfoods and gourmet recipes. Just get in the kitchen, have some fun and see what you can come up with. Here are some healthy meal ideas from my kitchen:
I'd love to hear from you if you decide to take the Eat Cook Enjoy challenge! Comment below or connect with Rethink Nutrition on Instagram or Twitter. It would be great to see photos of the fabulous meals you prepare, so don't forget to tag any pics with #CookEatEnjoy and tag @rethinknutrition as well so I don't miss them.
Happy cooking everybody!
