For a tea fan, this picture says it all. So what better way to spend a rainy Sunday morning than at the Sydney Tea Festival, which was exactly what I did last Sunday. With a variety of different boutique tea sellers exhibiting, countless different teas to sample and plenty of sweet treats to accompany them, it was tea fanatic heaven.
With so many different tea options to taste, it was hard to know where to start. My preferences for different types of tea change depending on my mood, what I'm doing, and what time of day it is. Lately I've been favouring lighter, floral white teas during the day, and herbal mint teas in the evening as I can be quite sensitive to caffeine. Of course it would have been remiss of me to not sample a wider range from chai to oolong to genmaicha.
My top 3 teas on the day (based purely on personal preference) were as follows -
- IAMBRAINS - a 100% organic blend from Sydney based company IAMINFUSION. This is the one tea I went home with on the day, a herbal mix designed to enhance and stimulate brain function (who doesn't need this!?) with flavours of rosemary, lemon and mint.
- Complexion - a light, clean tasting blend of white tea and rose from the South Coast's own Berry Tea Shop. I can image sipping this in the garden at afternoon tea from a fine porcelain tea cup.
- White Delight - a creamy dessert style tea by organic tea company The Rabbit Hole. This is another white tea blend, however a much more decadent one with white chocolate and raspberry. A tea like this would be perfect to keep in the house for when the after dinner sweet cravings come knocking.
I was lucky to have a quick chat with the lovely Martina from IAMINFUSION who's passion and enthusiasm for her range of herbals was contagious, and also got to finally meet Camilla aka @thealimentalsage, an almost-nutritionist from Melbourne who's instagram foodie pics I've been 'double-tapping' for a while now.
I also stopped to say hello to the girls from premium tea subscription service Mr Earl Tea. Tea lovers can sign up with Mr Earl to receive 3 different boutique teas at the start of each month. This is fantastic for anyone wanting to expand their tea palette without having to buy a large quantity of a single type of tea.
Before I left the festival it seemed absolutely appropriate to buy some special sweet treats to bring home for my family. I couldn't resist these handmade rosewater marshmallows by The Black Pantry. I believe there is nothing wrong with the occasional sweet treat and these were something else!
